Preparing for Adulthood

The Preparing for Adulthood pathway at Fir Tree College is a programme tailored to each learner’s aspirations and support needs. It aims to provide a balanced and meaningful experience that helps young people develop confidence and independence for the future.

Learners follow a programme combining independent living and employability modules, chosen to reflect their interests and goals. Alongside classroom-based learning, they take part in practical work experience within the local community, helping to develop skills in real-life settings as well as in college.

With guidance and support from Fir Tree College staff, learners participate in work experience across a variety of sectors, such as animal care, hospitality, horticulture, and local businesses including coffee shops. Placements offer opportunities to develop practical skills, social interaction, and confidence.

This pathway allows young people to prepare for adulthood in a safe, supportive, and engaging environment, helping them take steps towards greater independence and their chosen future.
